Claude Code makes auto mode the default

Anthropic's Claude Code account announced on August 7 that auto mode will become the default permission mode starting August 14. That is the whole post — no detail on migration, opt-out, or whether existing configured preferences are preserved.

Permission mode is the setting that governs how much a Claude Code session does before stopping to ask. Changing the default doesn't change what any individual user has already chosen; it changes what every new session and every user who never opened the setting gets.

#Why it matters

Defaults are policy. Agentic coding tools have spent the past year quietly moving the confirmation threshold, and the default permission mode is the single line item that decides how much of that autonomy the median user actually experiences. Worth checking your team's settings before the 14th.
