More than 230 companies and organizations across the tech sector signed the "Open Weights and American AI Leadership" open letter within a week of launch, per Microsoft's Brad Smith.
The policy debate has a comedic edge: as one viral post put it, the USG asking China to "submit open models for testing before release" collides with the fact that Chinese open-weight models are already public for anyone to test on release day.
