A new entrant in the crowded coding-agent field: fx, published August 18 and describing itself as a tiny, open, native coding agent. It picked up 263 points and 112 comments on Hacker News inside about 35 hours, which is the whole of the story's public footprint so far.
The positioning is the interesting part. "Tiny" and "native" read as a direct counter to the heavyweight incumbents — Claude Code, Codex, Cursor's agent mode — most of which ship as substantial toolchains rather than a single small binary. "Open" puts it alongside the open-weight-adjacent tooling wave rather than the vendor-locked CLIs.
There is no independent reporting on fx yet: no benchmark numbers, no adoption figures, no third-party review. HN front-page placement measures curiosity, not durability, and the agent-CLI graveyard is already well populated. Worth a look if you want a lightweight local agent; worth waiting for someone else's write-up before you rebuild a workflow around it.
