OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra: named in the third paragraph of a math post, shipped as a Critical-rated cyber model, then a week of benchmark records.
Jump to timeline ↓OpenAI let the name Astra slip in the third paragraph of a mathematics post in August, then shipped it a month later as its first Critical-rated cyber model — trained on 100,000+ GPUs at Stargate Texas and cleared with the White House before release.
The week that followed was a benchmark cascade: an Epoch Capabilities record, EyeBench, RuneBench, the first clean Bach chorale, hallucinations down to about 2%. The most interesting result was a negative one — Astra never touched a planted honeypot, which Zvi Mowshowitz read as worse news, not better.
